In 2005 a client who is passionate about Formula One, commissioned me to make a posthumous portrait of Ayrton Senna.
When the original clay was ready for casting we agreed it should be a limited edition of 12.
Six of the edition are in private collections in France and England. One is owned by Ron Dennis of McLaren, and two are being exhibited in Monte Carlo and London. When the remaining three have been cast, the original mould will be broken, making this an exclusive portrait of one of motor racing's greatest heroes.
Each bronze is £5000 and is signed and numbered in the edition; the portraits shown are mounted on a Portland stone base or marble if preferred.

I decided to work from video, rather than still photos, to try to give a better feeling of the personality and vitality of Ayrton Senna. It was an intense and moving process, watching his interviews, listening to his family and colleagues describe him, and sculpting him as he talked. I feel that Ayrton Senna, along with perhaps only Gilles Villeneuve, was one of the most charismatic and admirable men in Formula One.
